Our Wish List

A pasta maker

for hilarious disasters

floured foreheads

slurping up chewy strands

drizzled lightly with garlic oil

that we won’t taste

when we kiss.

An ice cream maker

for Sunday (ha-ha) parties with

close friends and kids

five different flavors

real whipped cream dollops on

noses, adults sneaking hits

of weed in shifts behind the garage.

An espresso maker

with a frothing wand

ceramic cappuccino cups

for the first day of our stay-cation

to explore our city’s

quirky diverse culture

be tourists in our own lives.

A panini maker

for the prosciutto and mozzarella

we buy from that Italian deli

on our way home from visiting your

parents who served corn dogs

and jello salad, my leg pressed

tight against yours beneath the table.

A juicer

for our bi-monthly cleanses of

drinkable celery, carrots, cucumber and beets

grown in our garden

fertilized by compost from the bin

in the back of our modest but

charming cape cod.

A bread maker

for snow days

happily trapped at home

watching Criterion Classics

popcorn for lunch

while dough rises

and you unzip my jeans.

Our enviable lives

a balance of work and fun

health and indulgence

all the convenient kitchen toys

we would ever need

waiting to be enjoyed

as soon as I meet you.
